Ten Pin Linky: Science & Social Studies & Giveaway Winners!

Ok, I'm late linking up... but I really wanted to participate in this linky!

I am joining Ashley from Just Reed again for her Ten Pin Linky where I share my top 10 favorite pins that relate to a certain topic. This week is Science and Social Studies pins! Woot!

Ok, here goes!
1. My Science Unit
Ok, this unit is near and dear to my heart because I spent HOURS upon HOURS creating it! I LOVE teaching about space which is why I decided to create this unit... my curriculum at school just wasn't enough for me! :)

2. We Will "Rock" You
This pin takes you to an adorable YouTube video of children singing a song all about how each type of rock is made to the tune of "We Will Rock You"! LOVE it!!

3. Human Anatomy
If you are teaching about bones and the body, how adorable is this?? You could even throw it in during community helpers if you're demonstrating things a doctor would do!

4. Presidents' Day
This pin will take you to an awesome blog post full of Presidents' Day resources! My favorite on the post is a link to a free video reading of the awesome book "So You Want to Be President?" Awesome!

5. Magic Potion
This pin takes you to a blog post about making this magic potion! When the ice cubes melt, the drink changes color! Very fun! Could certainly incorporate when you're talking about states of matter!

6. Phases of the Moon
I warned y'all... I love all things space! This is the CUTEST (and tastiest) idea ever for demonstrating the phases of the moon! What an awesome activity!

7. E is for Explore!
This pin takes you to an AWESOME website full of science experiments and resources! It includes the one regarding the picture - mixing Red Bull and milk causing a chemical reaction to help you teach states of matter!

8. Cheerios and States of Matter
Love the idea of using cheerios to demonstrate states of matter in this way!

9. If I Were President...
Such a cute hallway display! It would also provoke some great writing from the kiddos!

10. Visual Representation
What an AWESOME visual representation to help students realize the differentiation of sizes for different places in the world! I did this in class this year and it was super fun! We read it along with the book "Me on the Map"... love!

Well, there ya have it! My 10 favorite Science/Social Studies pins!

Before I go, it's time to announce the winners from my blog giveaway!

Flip Flop Product Swap Linky - Take 2!

Hello!

No, you aren't experiencing deja vu right now! I'm back for a second installment of the Flip Flop Product Swap Linky party hosted by Confessions of a Teaching Junkie!

This time I have joined up with sweet Deb from Fabulously First!
Fabulously First

Once Deb and I decided to join up...I went searching through her store and WOWZA! There's a TON of stuff to choose from! If you have never checked her out, put it on your to-do list right now!

After taking my time searching through all of her fabulous products, I eventually decided on her Bossy R Roundup!

Deb's Bossy R Roundup pack is all about providing students with fun, different ways to practice those tricky r-controlled vowels!

The pack is 36 pages total and consists of 4 different activities! I'm going to show you some previews of each activity. Please note that I did not include ALL of the pages in these activity previews! I just wanted you to get an idea of what wonderful activities are included in this awesome resource!

Activity 1:
This activity is to get students up and moving while working on those "bossy r" words! You place the word cards around the classroom and students will go around to read them and then write them on the recording sheet that's included! I know my firsties LOVE to do these types of activities!

Activity 2:
Next up is a fun word scramble to get those kiddos thinking! Each card is numbered and the students are provided with a "word bank" to reference. There is a recording sheet included for this activity as well. How fun!

Activity 3:
This activity is always a classroom favorite! Who doesn't love a good ole "I Have, Who Has?" game?!? Well, you're in luck because Deb has included one in this pack! It clearly states the first card and last card and focuses solely on words with r-controlled vowels! You can play this multiple times because the students will get different cards and will be required to read those cards each time they play!

Activity 4:
I love all of the activities in this pack but this one has to be my favorite! This one has a game board and an adorable dice template to make your own game dice. It also has adorable cowboy and cowgirl character game pieces along with word cards! This game reinforces reading the word cards correctly before they can roll and move a piece on the game board! I can't wait to use this with my kiddos because I know they will love it!

All in all, this is a wonderful resource to have in your classroom! I highly suggest you head on over and check it out as well as all of the other fabulous products Deb has to offer! Don't forget to head on over to her blog and check that out as well!

Deb decided to review my Down in the Deep Blue Sea Math Centers! I hope you will head over to her blog and check out her review!

I will do an updated review once I have had a chance to use this with my class so that you can see the activities in action!

Thanks for stopping by today! :) Happy Wednesday!

Flip Flop Product Swap Linky!

Hi guys!
So there's a fun new linky party in town and I decided to join!
It's being hosted by Confessions of a Teaching Junkie! Click the pic above to check out her blog and thank her for hosting this linky!

So this linky is super fun because you get to find somebody to partner up with and swap products!

For this very first product swap for this linky, I teamed up with Farrah Shipley over at Mrs. Shipley's Fabulous Firsties! She is such a sweetie! When you're done reading this post, be sure and head on over to her blog to show her some love and to see which of my products she chose to swap for! :)

So, I spent some time going through Farrah's TpT store and there were several awesome looking products I wanted to try out! I ultimately decided to give this one a try...

Click the picture to check this out in Farrah's Store!
I chose this one because 1. I love anything that's brightly colored with rainbows and 2. because the key phrase "multi-step word problems" jumped out at me! What child doesn't need more exposure to this?!?

Now, this is a Scoot game which is really fun and the kids always love it. Basically you print and laminate the individual cards and then lay a card on each child's desk. The students then go through rounds, moving around the room, solving all of the problems (hopefully correctly!).

Farrah's pack provides you with 26 individual cards... all with different multi-step problems. There is also a blank 27th and 28th card so that you can create your own if you wish to do so!
I love that the cards are very bright and fun looking. This will make it more exciting for the kiddos! The font is a nice size as well, making it readable for all students.

One of the things I love most about this product is that students WILL have to THINK to solve these problems! These are not just basic one-step math problems where the answer is right there. They will have to dig deeper and use those higher order thinking skills to determine what steps need to be taken and then to actually solve the problem using those steps. Take a look at these 2 problems below for example. You'll notice the nice, clean look of each card, and that is has the card number nice and big in the upper left corner so that students know exactly which problem they are working on. I have placed the word "Preview" over the pictures in order to protect Farrah's hard work! That will not be on the cards in the product! :)
Farrah has also provided the students with a nice recording sheet for them to use while playing the game. Get the kiddos a clipboard and a pencil, and they're ready to "Scoot" right along! :)
I can't wait to go back to school and use this with the kiddos! I know they are going to enjoy it!

Be on the lookout for a NEW post about this game once school is back in session to see how it went with the kids and to see it "in action"!

Thank you so much for reading my post today! Now it's time to head over to Farrah's blog!
